FROM IRON TO ICON

THE NAME - FORGED FROM IRON
Pronounced “FIN-dice-en” (German: Find-Eisen), the name Findeisen dates back to the Middle Ages — a time when family names emerged from trade, place of origin, and craftsmanship.
At its core sits the German word “Eisen” — iron. A material associated with strength, endurance, and precision for centuries, and one that still defines the character of mechanical watches today.
Historically, Findeisen was given to people who worked with iron: blacksmiths, tradesmen, and craftsmen whose lives were shaped by the material they worked with.
The roots of our branch of the Findeisen family trace back from the Gerdauen region in East Prussia to the Ore Mountains around Zschopau — a region shaped by mining, craftsmanship, and metalworking.
In the 1960s, the name found an unexpected and personal connection to wristwatches: Max Findeisen, great-grandfather of founder Martin Zettl, customized the dial of his own watch with the family name. Many decades later, the idea for a brand began to take shape.

FROM NAME TO BRAND
With the decision to turn the Findeisen name into a brand came a conscious choice for Nürnberg — a city closely tied to the history of portable timekeeping and figures such as Peter Henlein.
Since 2017, mechanical wristwatches have been created here: distinctive in design, uncompromising in the selection of their components, and built to convince through craftsmanship, feel, and thoughtful design.
Above all, a Findeisen should create that brief feeling when you look at it, hold it, or wear it — and instantly think: This is just really, really good.

THE FOUNDER
Martin Zettl founded the Findeisen brand — not out of a long watchmaking tradition, but from a deep appreciation for things built to last.
Sports and time outdoors are as much a part of his everyday life as a passion for mechanical watches, thoughtful design, and products that convince through craftsmanship, feel, and character.
For years, rugged boots, selvedge denim, and honest materials have been part of his everyday life — things meant to be used, to age, and to become better over time. Not as a matter of style, but of conviction.
Perhaps that explains why Findeisen was never intended to be a polished lifestyle brand: not loud, not staged — just watches that speak for themselves.
